About your Templates

I noticed you've been making a series of {{templates}} that contain a single character which is being transcluded. Please note that this is bad wiki-form. If I'm looking at it right, you're simply trying to maintain a list of what is "in stock", in a shop style. I don't understand why you need so many templates for this. If you would like, Ye Olde Component Shoppe from Nexus War is up for grabs, complete with a functioning website and inventory/order system. EugeneKay 08:04, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Each template appears about half-a-dozen times on the page in the recipes section. Update the template and you update all the elemnts in the page, stock and readiness for brewing. Yes, it's clumsy. It was a quick-and-dirty solution for tracking alchemy component requirements. The YOCS guys were very kind to me and to the Shartak players when we started playing NW (near the end) and I'd love to get involved in a YOCS or Newbie Welcome Wagon faction. However my alchemist is a Wyrm Master with Sanitarium so he doesn't really fit with those YOCS/NWW neutral ideals. Someone really should pick up the YOCS banner and run with it - maybe that will happen once Enchanting is functional? Come the next Breath I'll make a point of sorting out a neutral character for this idea if nobody else has picked up on it. --Skull Face 10:18, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
Well, as of right now, "The YOCS guys" is anybody who wants to do it. The reason nobody has so far is the lack of a factional safe. That being said, can you *please* not abuse templates like that? If you make a single template that you could call with {{User:SkullFace/Inventory|ComponentName}}, and keep it all on a single template, it would please me greatly. I do believe MediaWiki supports a "switch" style operator, which would do nicely for that. EugeneKay 05:45, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
I'll take a look at an alternative template system soonish, I wasn't aware that you could have switching templates like that. I'll also need to check out if you can have template as subsections of the user space rather than the global space. --Skull Face 20:58, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
EK would you please check to see if the MediaWiki ParserFunctions extension (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:ParserFunctions) has been installed here? I've had no joy setting up conditional template as per your request. -- Skull Face 16:10, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
