As a replacement for Glaeken the [[Lich]] version of Garth was a mixed bag of successes and failures. Garth was a faction whore, never really settling with one faction. He started with the Raggies, went feral, moved briefly to ID, spent time with Invictus, then moved back to the Raggies. The downside to this character was the borked build mistakenly optimised for combat (a good example of how to get it wrong for a [[Lich]]). The build was fine when raiding but otherwise pretty rubbish e.g.

* both [[Summon Will-O-Wisp]] and [[Hand of the Necromancer]] were of dubious value

* a big range of attacks spells is not so useful for a petmaster

* small errors (e.g. Minor spell version) make a big difference

* order of abilties purchased could have been much better

The upside is that he was an effective raider e.g. he was responsible for a massive ghoul army taking down the Pirates during his brief time with ID, the first time that the biggest faction in the game had been successfully rolled.

XP total 0. Started the Breath with Engineering, something different for 2015. From there the tentative plan is to hit level 2 and Search up books to earn XP. Then grab basic combat skills along the way.

XP total 2107. Level 10. New CP bonus system kicked in and gain allowed for purchase of full Archery and Bowyer trees.

Sep 26th 2015

XP total 9598. Level 22. Upon achieving level 20 the CP bonus system yielded considerable gains (75 CP) for Alcohol Drunk, Damage Dealt, Food Eaten, Items Repaired and Kills. This allowed for a fair selection of T3 abilities coming out of the starting gate. Level 21 yielded an additional 10 CP for 500 Books Read. Between leels 20 and 22 the Eye of Death is again proving worthwhile for tracking demons; there are plenty of corpses in the libraries of Laurentia. Currently at level 22 the character has 75 CP unspent. Next purchase seems likely to be the Day Walker ability to remove sunlight penalties and open up gameplay (already one raid has been skipped as it was set during the day).

XP total 0. Started The Terror anew with Melee Weapons ability. Primarily due to lesson learned from the previous Breath; Defilers are rubbish for combat. Even at this early stage it seems likely that The Terror will be Pariah in T2 and then Infernal Behemoth in T3.

XP total 2100. Level 10 and the new approach to Lifetime Achievements yielded a lot of extra CP to spend. Used the bonus to spruce up extant skill trees and to buy into Surgery. The thinking (possibly wishful) for the latter is that an injured Infernal Behemoth will need some means of recovering lost HP.

Jan 03rd

XP total 312. Level 3. Beginning to have doubts about the wisdom of reclaiming this character. A feral swordsman who hunts minions of the Adversary? Conceptually that is a lot like Skull Face. Will either have to work to create some variety or release Glaeken.

Jan 13th

XP total 1348. Level 7. Followed a mixed Melee Combat / Smithing path for the last week or so, due mainly to indecision about Glaeken's likely T2 / T3 career. As with The Tartan Terror (who followed this path in Breath 2) the XP gains have been steady. When there are no targets available a search of a nearby Factory often yields one or two Crafting components. And, as with The Terror, lacking Search, his Crafting rate is slowed by so many extra AP spent searching. With the removal of the three faction limit Glaeken has booked passage with Heart of Oak, his destination being a final battle with the Adversary.

Jan 28th

XP total 2991. Level 12. Heart of Oak is proving to be an entertaining choice of faction. Theological and philosophical debates are frequent. Glaeken's unique viewpoint is, as yet, unchallenged by the theologians. Sadly the Oaks raid on an Eastern / Midwest USA evening timeframe which means Glaeken is unlikely to ever be raiding. So, at least for now, he fulfills the role of faction Master Smith. Having chosen to Ascend to Paladin status with Divine Herald in mind (rather than Eternal Soldier or Revenant), and filled out the core Mortal skills, the character is technically ready to become a slayer of demons. Gehenna (or another demonic plane) is noticeably lacking.

Feb 07th

XP total 4166. Level 14. Lacking a raiding focus Glaeken is becoming somewhat stale. In spite of steady progress from Smithing and cutting down the occasional villain in the Mason Point area it seems likely, again, that Glaeken will be retired early. A shake-up is required.

Feb 12th

XP total 4502. Having obtained Hide and Sense Magic at level 15 Glaeken is out exploring the islands and meeting new people. Wandering swordsman is a familiar role for this character from Breath 1. Hopefully this will keep the character vibrant until T3. The alternative is to find another faction that raids in the GMT time zone.

Feb 20th

XP total 5100. Level 16. Unrealistic (and unethical) gameplay demands made it prudent to move Glaeken out of the HoO faction and into The Heavenly Host. I find it perplexing that otherwise upstanding and intelligent players can have such blind spots in their thinking. With feral status forced upon the character, life on the move has been raw and difficult. It would be a natural consequence for Glaeken to become quite vengeful.

Feb 28th

XP total 5851. Level 17. Accepted an invitation to join a small raiding faction which operates within the GMT timeframe. No raids so far. Instead Glaeken is doing factional Smithing duties. XP gains are steady but life is a little humdrum.

Mar 04th

- You have joined the Accord of the Sun-Touched (2012-03-01 04:11:46).

XP total 6235. Level 18. As an angel Glaeken now respawns in Elysium where the new terrain looks much better thought out than in Breath 2. The new planes seem much improved over most of those extant in Breath 2.

May 12th

XP total 14345. On the verge of level 28. The last two months produced a smooth ascent to Divine Herald status and beyond. Gameplay for this rebuilt class is good; enjoyable and low maintenance thanks to innate movement, weapon and armour. The Feet of the Wind movement ability combined with Demon Tracker makes for a much-improved hunting experience over that of Breath 1 (i.e. Seraph with Wings and Eye of Demon Tracker). Having prior experience of Demon Tracker appears to have helped; other players commenting on the forums seem to have difficulty making it work for them. Outwith hunting, raiding with Glaeken has largely been successful. With carefully timed application of potions and Harbinger of War he has been in the thick of the fighting and levelling steadily. When not raiding he has Smithing to fall back on and has gained 15 bonus CP from repairs. At level 27 finally obtained Holy Fury which is arguably the first not-so-straightforward ability in the Divine Herald portfolio. Overall the Divine Herald is proving to be an easy and fun class to play.

Oct 28th

XP total 20834. Level 30 came and went some time ago. Invested in the Harbinger of Judgement ability tree to improve acuracy and offer an alternate damage type. Glaeken has been good to play but, even with 15 CP unspent, it is time to set him aside for a while. Note that Glaeken also picked up the Stalker of Death badge during this time.

Nov 8th

XP total 14120. Ludwig was restarted in Breath 3 as a result of excess store credits from donations. The intention was to revisit the Wyrm Master class as a factioned petmaster, to contrast with the same class unfactioned in Breath 1. The build for Ludwig was kept relatively minimal based on lessons learned elsewhere. Additional contrast was intended by declining the Horrid Tentacle pets (which were effectively neutered by the changes to their improvement ability Favour of GNak) in favour of Hellhounds.

At Tier 2 the Alchemy abilities were deferred until later: Alchemy had proven extremely frustrating for this character in Breath 1 and the expectation was that it would be the same in Breath 3. Surprisingly, however, factioned status combined with the daughter skill Alchemical Transmutation made Alchemy much more viable (although extremely heavy on MP and AP usage). As expected for a Defiler the Tier 2 levelling was very slow, relying on a combination of book reading, alchemy-related gains (both minor XP but still welcome) and opportunistic kills (XP food for the starved).

At early Tier 3 the standard/expected abilities were taken obtained as soon as possible. New ability Metamorphic Unguis was obtained at level 24 and proved valuable both for wardbashing and for finishing off kills to gain higher XP. This new ability nicely rounds out the WM, providing an alternative to the Thrown Weapons-based, MP-dependent Acid Spittle build without making it overly powerful.

Currently at level 27, the most recent CP expenditure has been on Tier 1 abilities to complement Translucency. Experience to date shows that Hellhounds are quite MP-intensive; coupled with changes to Dark Heart this makes it difficult to be effective against targets wearing defense-enchanted armour. The Hellhounds will certainly benefit from Nether Grafting.

Feb 7th

XP total 21944. After the best part of a year off Ludwig remains a bit of a mixed bag. Reliance on Dark Heart attacks (which cannot have accuracy increased but can have it decreased by defense) for MP recovery means that the WM relies on abundance of victims as a precursor for building a wall of critters. Moving around to find victims chips AP away from pets and Dark Heart chips AP from the WM. Twisted Leap helps in terms of mobility. Ultimately this means that the WM is focussed more on hunting and less on ambush. On a good (hunting) day this works well. This is balanced by the fact that on a bad (defensive) day the WM can be quite poor.

Purchased Poison purely out of curiosity; qrguably that ability is better for gaining XP earlier in the game. Unable to find a Glyph of Slowing vs Good, elected instead to spend remaining XP on a hodge-podge of abilities; Summon Imp to assist in finding hidden victims and Engineering for both utility and working on stats.

XP total 10919. This new character was designed specifically for the Maximum Overdrive demonic faction, wherein, naturally, most characters are possessed vehicles. In this case the titular vehicle from Theodore Sturgeon's novel / B movie (arguably ripped off by Stephen King for Maximum Overdrive) provided the inspiration for the character.

Engineering was first choice ability, with the intention (as yet unrealised) of obtaining Structural Engineering later. The previous Breath example of The Tartan Terror as a Doom Howler informed some of the build choices. With the depowering of Martial Spellcraft, the character schtick with Blood Claws was fairly obvious. Destructive Blow also fitted well and has significant raiding utility even though it is heavy on the MP. Supplementary stone-themed Impact spells also fit the concept.

Although originally intended as an Infernal Behemoth, at level 20 a last-minute switch of direction was made to Doom Howler to beef up raiding parties; as Infernal Behemoth it was originally intended that the character also have Tailwhip to supplement Blood Claws. Hiatus from the game occurred not long after hitting T3. Upon return the MO faction was non-existent.

At time of writing the character is grinding towards the Achievement award for 500 Power Removed, which will yield CP to pay for the spells obtained at level 24. Future purchases are likely to include Ghost Tendrils, Soul Draining and and possibly Phasing or Keening of the Damned.
