Melee Weapons are used in close proximity to stab, slash or bash a target. Melee weapons may be used by the untrained and ability with these weapons may be improved through the purchase of the Melee Combat skill tree. Various other second and third-tier skills (such as Weapon Mastery), potions and spells can also improve the chances to hit with melee weapons. The individual weapons state which side-branch of the Melee Combat skill tree they belong to (Improvised, Manufactured or Swords) and whether they suffer from Decay.

Improvised Weapons

Improvised Weapons are weapons of opportunity that wouldn't usually be used to attack a human being. In-game they are further differentiated by the fact that they do not decay over time and cannot be manufactured i.e. they can only be found by searching.

This makes them effective starting weapons (particularly if the character does not possess the Repair skill). Improvised weapons are generally inferior to weapons such as Swords or Manufactured weapons, which can be Pristined.

Axe

The favorite of firemen and woodsmen everywhere.

Heavy Weapons

These items are Heavy Weapons and deal more damage, but suffer a -20% hit penalty (already included in the tables) compared to other melee weapons. Heavy Weapons are a type of melee weapon, and so anything that affects melee weapons in any way will also affect Heavy Weapons. However, the inverse is not true, and there are some skills that give a special bonus to Heavy Weapons' accuracy/damage. These skills are Strength, Tattoo of Strength, Hulking Brute, Fiendish Bulk, Infernal Combat, Animus of the Wolf, Heart of the Wolf, and Blood of the Wolf.
