Potions are magical items that characters can consume. Consuming a potion will produce some kind of effect or grant some kind of power to the character. Potions last for a certain duration -- their effects are not permanent.

Using a potion costs 1 Action Point and consumes the item -- it is removed from the character's inventory. Using a potion does not cost any Magic Points. While in the vast majority of cases the character must drink the potion in order to gain its benefits, there may be some skills or abilities (for example, the Advocate skill Anoint) that allow one character to use a potion on another.

Potions have a weight of 1. Each potion contains enough liquid for one use.

Drinking a potion requires one Action Point. The potion is removed from the character's inventory in the process. All potions have a weight of 1. No Magic Points are consumed by potion effects. Drinking multiple potions of the same type increases the duration of the effect but not the strength.

Characters with the skill Alchemy can brew potions, provided they have the proper ingredients and have the correct alchemical recipe. Characters with the skill Sense Magic are able to identify any potions in their inventory for what they are -- without that skill a character cannot tell what effect a given potion will have until they drink it.

Along with being brewed, potions can be found in various locations. As the actual potion you find is decided upon after you actually find a potion, here are the findrates per tile:

Standard Potion Set

Characters with the Alchemy skill gain knowledge of the recipes of all the potions in the Standard Potion Set. Through research and experimentation all the following potions can be brewed by any Alchemist. Recipes for potions outside the Standard Potion Set must be discovered.

Potion of Acid Affinity

You feel an upwelling of power within you, protecting you from acid.

Duration: 25 Status Ticks

Effect: The character gains immunity to Acid damage and +2 damage to all attacks which deal Acid damage. If multiple potions of this type are consumed their durations will stack.

Potion of Cold Affinity

You feel an inner warmth spreading through you, protecting you from cold.

Duration: 25 Status Ticks

Effect: The character gains immunity to Cold damage and +2 damage to all attacks which deal Cold damage. If multiple potions of this type are consumed their durations will stack.

Potion of Combat Clarity

You feel your pulse quicken and your understanding sharpen

Duration: 25 Status Ticks

Effect: The character gains the Combat Clarity Status Effect, granting a +15% bonus to attack rolls. If multiple potions of this type are consumed their durations will stack.

Potion of Death Affinity

You feel a strange numb sensation pass through your body before feeling a renewed surge of vigor.

Duration: 25 Status Ticks

Effect: The character gains immunity to Death damage and +2 damage to all attacks which deal Death damage. If multiple potions of this type are consumed their durations will stack.

Potion of Electricity Affinity

You feel the hair on your body stand on edge for a moment, then the feeling fades.

Duration: 25 Status Ticks

Effect: The character gains immunity to Electric damage and +2 damage to all attacks which deal Electric damage. If multiple potions of this type are consumed their durations will stack.

Potion of Extended Invisibility

You quaff the potion. As you do so, your body disappears from view.

Duration: 12 hours (720 minutes)

Effect: The character gains the Invisible Status Effect -- they cannot be found by a successful Search nor can they been seen by those who possess Enhanced Senses.

Potion of Fire Affinity

You feel a deep chill pass through your body.

Duration: 25 Status Ticks

Effect: The character gains immunity to Fire damage and +2 damage to all attacks which deal Fire damage. If multiple potions of this type are consumed their durations will stack.

Potion of Flying

You feel lighter, as if you could fly!

Duration: 30 minutes.

Effect: The character gains the option to fly. Note that after drinking the potion the character must click "fly" in order to gain the flying Status Effect which halves movement costs.

Potion of Greater Invulnerability

You feel a great upsurge of power and tension wash over you, protecting you from harm.

Duration: 25 Status Ticks

Effect: The character gains a +4 bonus to all soak values. This potion will stack its effects with Potions of Invulnerability and Potions of Lesser Invulnerability.

Potion of Healing

You quaff the potion. As you do so, you feel its magic flow through you, mending flesh and bone.

Duration: Not applicable

Effect: The character immediately gains 30 Hit Points (the character cannot go over their normal Hit Point maximum via this method) and any poisons that may be affecting the character are removed.

Potion of Holy Affinity

You feel a deep sense of abiding love and calm sprout within you.

Duration: 25 Status Ticks

Effect: The character gains immunity to Holy damage and +2 damage to all attacks which deal Holy damage. If multiple potions of this type are consumed their durations will stack.

Potion of Invisibility

You quaff the potion. As you do so, your body disappears from view.

Duration: 15 minutes

Effect: The character gains the Invisible Status Effect -- they cannot be found by a successful Search nor can they been seen by those who possess Enhanced Senses.

Potion of Invulnerability

You feel a surge of power and tension wash over you, protecting you from harm.

Duration: 25 Status Ticks

Effect: The character gains a +3 bonus to all soak values. This potion will stack its effects with Potions of Greater Invulnerability and Potions of Lesser Invulnerability.

Potion of Lesser Invulnerability

You feel a small surge of power and tension wash over you, protecting you from harm.

Duration: 25 Status Ticks

Effect: The character gains a +2 bonus to all soak values. This potion will stack its effects with Potions of Greater Invulnerability and Potions of Invulnerability.

Potion of Magic Recovery

You quaff the potion; as you do so, you feel a rush of magical energy sweep through your body.

Duration: Not applicable

Effect: The character immediately gains 15 Magic Points (the character cannot go over their normal Magic Point maximum via this method).

Potion of Planar Protection

You feel soothing sense of harmony creep over you.

Duration: 60 minutes.

Effect: The character gains the Planar Protection Status Effect -- the character will not take damage due to being on another plane of existence. If multiple potions of this type are consumed their durations will stack.

Potion of Regeneration

You quaff the potion. As you do so, you feel your body begin to mend itself.

Duration: 15 Status Ticks

Effect: The character gains the Regenerating Status Effect -- at each Status Tick event the character gains 3 Hit Points (the character cannot go over their normal Hit Point maximum via this method).

Potion of Strength

You feel your muscles thrum with power.

Duration: 25 Status Ticks

Effect: The character gains the Strength Status Effect: the character deals +2 points of damage with Hand-to-Hand and Melee attacks. Hand-to-Hand spells are not affected.

Potion of Unholy Affinity

You feel a deep welling up of hatred wash over your body for a few moments.

Duration: 25 Status Ticks

Effect: The character gains immunity to Unholy damage and +2 damage to all attacks which deal Unholy damage. If multiple potions of this type are consumed their durations will stack.

Potion of Water-Breathing

You feel much more at home in the water.

Duration: 30 minutes (can be stacked)

Effect: The character gains the Water Breathing Status Effect -- the character is able to move through water tiles for a cost of 1 Action Point per tile.
