All characters in Nexus Clash begin as a mortal. A mortal is a normal human, with no special abilities or skills other than what a human would be capable of.

Mortals are free to have any Morality they desire: Good, Evil, or Neutral. Their skills do not depend on their Morality.

Upon reaching 10th level a mortal enters Tier 2 and is able to choose a new class. A mortal can Ascend if their Morality is Good (a Morality of 20 or more) and become either a Paladin or Shepherd, Descend if their Morality is Evil (a Morality of -20 or less) and become either a Defiler or Pariah, or Transcend and become either a Myrmidon or Sorcerer regardless of their Morality. No matter what choice they make, the mortal must have first spent at least 70 Character Points.
