The crafting skills Bowyer, Smithing and Gunsmithing allow the creation of their respective items if you have the required materials and are in a suitable location. (Bowyer: Bows and Slings; Smithing: Melee Weapons, Armor and Thrown weapons; Gunsmithing: Guns respectively. Bowyers require a Portable Toolkit, Smiths require a forge, and Gunsmiths require a gunbench.)

Items have 6 quality levels - in increasing order: destroyed, broken, worn, average, good, pristine
Each quality level above average adds +5% to hit or +1 to each soak value
Each quality level below average subtracts 5% to hit or removes 1 to each soak value, minimum of 0

With the first level of a smith skill, you can create items up to Average Quality and repair that class of items up to Average at a reduced cost. With the Master level of the respective smith skill, you can craft and repair up to Pristine Quality, at a further reduced cost.
All recipes have an additional XP bonus and AP cost based on the item crafted.

AP Cost and Experience

AP cost for crafting is 10*quality level up to average, with good and pristine taking an extra 20 AP, + a base amount depending on the item crafted.
XP gained is 12*quality level + a different base amount depending on the item (twice the base AP).

As a result, it's more efficient to craft items at destroyed quality and repair them to the desired level than it is to craft high quality items directly. For example, a character with Smithing can create a destroyed sword (22 XP, 15 AP) and repair it 3 times (30 XP, 21 AP), netting an average sword and 52 XP at the cost of 36 AP. (1.44 XP per AP) In contrast, the same character could simply create an average sword, earning 58 XP at the cost of 45 AP. (1.29 XP per AP).

Gunsmithing

Gunsmithing allows the crafting of the following items in locations that have a Gunbench:

These items are manufactured from a Small Bottle of Gunpowder. Each bottle will take 5AP to craft one of the following:

Bowyer

Bowyer allows the crafting of the following items, provided you have a Portable Toolkit in your inventory:

Quiver of Arrows

  • One Piece of Wood can be crafted into 2 Quivers of Arrows for 5AP (no XP is gained, nor is the Items Crafted achievement increased)

Long Bow

+14xp / +7AP

Short Bow

+6xp / +3AP

Sling

+8xp / +4AP

Compound Bow
