Contents

Status Effects are temporary conditions which a character may acquire through various means. Status effects may be powerful (for example, Poison) or fairly innocuous (for example, Twitchy). They may be either beneficial or harmful to the character. Status Effects are usually acquired via the use of skills or items, or involuntarily by the actions of other characters.

Each status effect has a certain duration, which is measured in Status Ticks. They will wear off with a combination of actions on the part of the character, attacks on the character (except for pets), and the passing of time.

Some status effects may be stacked. Such status effects may have their duration extended by using the ability which granted the effect repeatedly. Other status effects will have their duration reset if used more than once, or will simply fail to affect a character who already possesses the effect.

Also note that the results of performing Alchemical research might cause a random status effect from this list to affect your character.

Acid Burn

Status Effect Tag: Acid Burn

Duration: 15 Status Ticks

Effect: The character suffers a -1 penalty to soak and damage and a -5% penalty to attack and defense bonus

Notes: This status effect is the result of a Dark Oppressor attacking you with Corrosive Horns.

Adrenaline

Status Effect Tag: Adrenaline

Duration: 10 Status Ticks

Stackable: Yes

Effect: The character gains a +2 bonus to soak and damage

Notes: This status effect is the result of an Eternal Soldier activating the skill Way of Urgency.

Adapted to

Status Effect Tag: Adapted to (damage type)

Duration: 5 or 10 Status Ticks

Stackable: No

Effect: The character gains Immunity to attacks dealing the type of damage they have adapted to. In other words, a character with the "Adapted to Death" status effect will take no damage from Death attacks. A character can only have one "Adapted to" status effect active at a time.

Notes: This status effect is the result of one of two things:

  • Being hit by an attack that deals damage while the target has the skill Tattoo of Adaptation, which grants 10 status ticks and ends when hit and damaged with another damage type.
  • Making an (even if not successful) attack using Master of Hidden Energy, which grants 5 status ticks and does not end when hit with another damage type.

Animus of the Bat

Status Effect Tag: Animus of the Bat

Duration: 15 Minutes

Stackable: No

Effect: This Status Effect grants the character all the bonuses of the Animus of the Bat skill.

Notes: This Status Effect is granted when a Revenant activates the Animus of the Bat skill. The Revenant can end this effect at any time.

Animus of the Dust

Status Effect Tag: Animus of the Dust

Duration: 15 Minutes

Stackable: No

Effect: The character gains +2 Melee damage, heals HP by the full amount of MP drained by the Umbral Sword and can track targets that were successfully hit.

Notes: This Status Effect is granted when a Revenant activates the Animus of the Dust skill. The Revenant can end this effect at any time.

Animus of the Wolf

Status Effect Tag: Animus of the Wolf

Duration: 15 Minutes

Stackable: No

Effect: This Status Effect grants the character all the bonuses of the Animus of the Wolf skill.

Notes: This Status Effect is granted when a Revenant activates the Animus of the Wolf skill. The Revenant can end this effect at any time.

Arcane Trail

Status Effect Tag: Arcane Trail

Duration: 1 Status Tick

Stackable: Yes

Effect:

  • Normal: The character gains +5% to attack and a +5% defense bonus
  • Focused Trail: The character gains +2 damage and +1 soak

Notes: This status effect is the result of a Conduit with Arcane Trail successfully attacking a target with Archery or Thrown Weapons attacks (The Conduit does not receive this status effect).

Arcane Well

Status Effect Tag: Arcane Well (local)

Duration: 2 hours (if produced with Arcane Well) or 4 hours (if produced with Arcane Recycling)

Stackable: No.

Effect: All characters in the location gain 1 additional MP per AP Tick.

Notes: This status effect is the result of a Conduit using the skill Arcane Well.

Agony Curse

Status Effect Tag: Agony Curse

Duration: 720 minutes

Stackable: No

Effect: While under the effect of this status effect, the character suffers a -15% to all attack rolls. In addition, the character takes extra damage due to the Curse every time the character takes damage from some source. For characters of levels 1- 9, this extra damage is 1 point. For characters of levels 10- 19, this extra damage is 2 points. For characters of levels 20 and higher, this extra damage is 3 points. Regardless of level, the character also loses 1 MP per action taken.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of being hit by a Dark Oppressor's Agony Curse.

Altered Luck

Status Effect Tag: Altered Luck

Duration: 30 Status Ticks

Effect: Character gains +1 damage and +5% to hit with all attacks

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of a Nexus Champion activating the skill Tattoo of the Cosmic Gambler with your factionmate character in the same tile.

Blessed

Status Effect Tag: Blessed

Duration: 15 or 30 Status Ticks

Stackable: No

Effect:

Notes: These effects do not require the affected character to have said skills, instead the character casting the Blessing needs to have those skills to improve the status effect. Multiple Blessing effects will not stack, not even in effect, instead overwriting the previous Blessing. This status effect comes from activating the Advocate skill Blessing of Inspiration. The Advocate activating this ability does not receive this status effect.

Blessing of Evasion

Status Effect Tag: Blessing of Evasion

Effect: The character gains +20% to defense.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of Prayer from a Shepherd.

Blessing of Resistance

Status Effect Tag: Blessing of Resistance

Effect: The character gains +2 soak against all attacks.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of Prayer from a Shepherd.

Bloodlust

Status Effect Tag: Bloodlust

Duration: 30 Status Ticks

Stackable: No, but can be reset

Effect: Depending on the character's skills. Note that these effects are added onto one another.

  • Normal: The character gains +1 damage to any Melee or Hand-to-Hand attack. Character also has a -10% to their defense and gains +1 soak.
  • Berzerk Frenzy: The character gains an additional +2 damage to any Melee or Hand-to-Hand attack, a +10% attack bonus and spends 1 MP per non-attack action, that costs AP, taken (which can end the effect early if no MP is available).
  • Adrenal Healing: The character gains 3 HP for every successful attack action made and an additional +1 soak.

Notes: This status effect is granted when a character with the Bloodlust skill either kills another character in single combat, or consumes Blood Ice. Note that this status effect can be modified by other skills in the Bloodlust skill tree (Berzerk Frenzy and Adrenal Healing). The duration of the effect is set to 30 Status Ticks every time the character makes a kill.

Blood Curse

Status Effect Tag: Blood Curse

Effect: A character under this Status Effect is unable to be healed by any means, and suffers a -2 penalty to soak.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of a Dark Oppressor using the skill Curse of Blood.

Blood Frenzy

Status Effect Tag: Blood Frenzy

Duration: 30 Status Ticks

Stackable: The effects of multiple instances of this effect stack.

Effect: The character gains +2 Damage (all, except spells), +5% to hit (all, including spells), -2 Soak and -5% dodge per Blood Frenzy effect (up to four, the fourth resets one at random). In addition, the character views all other characters as Hostile and spends 1 MP per action, regardless of the amount of Blood Frenzy effects. The character will lose this status effect if they cannot pay the MP cost.

Notes: This status effect is granted when a Revenant activates the skill Blood Frenzy or kills another character in single combat while already under the effects of Blood Frenzy. It is also granted at random from alchemical experimentation with single ingredients.

Blur

Status Effect Tag: Blur

Duration: 20 Status Ticks

Effect: +10% defense, +5% dodge.

Notes: This Status Effect is gained by casting the Spell Blur.

Bolster Attack

Effect: The character with this status effect gains a +2 damage bonus to all attacks.

Notes: This status effect comes from activating the Paladin skill Bolster Attack.

Channelled Trail

  • Normal: The character gains -5% to attack and a -5% defense bonus
  • Focused Trail: The character gains -2 damage and -1 soak

Notes: This status effect is the result of a Conduit with Arcane Trail successfully attacking a target with Archery or Thrown Weapons attacks.

Charade of Redemption

Status Effect Tag: Charade of Redemption

Effect:

  • Normal: The character appears as a factionmate when viewed in the Description Pane. In addition, characters with Sense Morality will perceive the character as being of Good Morality.
  • Dark Trick: An attacker loses 2 MO and takes 5 points of Holy damage when attacking a character affected by this status effect (in addition to normal MO shifts)
  • Masquerade of Deception: Any attacks made against a character under this status effects cause MO shifts as though the character was of Neutral morality. In addition, a Fallen may accept external healing, but each healing action (not by pets?) reduces the duration by 5 ticks.

Notes: This status effect is the result of a Fallen activating the skill Charade of Redemption.

Choking

Crusader Blessing

Status Effect Tag: Crusader Blessing

Effect: The character gains +2 damage and +20% to hit on all attacks.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of Prayer from a Shepherd.

Death Marked

Status Effect Tag: Death-marked

Duration: 10 ticks.

Stackable: Can have multiple instances of this effect active.

Effect: A character under this Status Effect is unable to be healed by any means.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of being struck by Maeval. "Death-marked" status reduces damage immunity to 90% resistance. It reduces existing resistance by 10% and soak by 1 (minimum of 0), so a character who drinks a cold affinity potion and then is hit three times by Maeval will have 3 such statuses on him; the first reduces the immunity to 90% resistance, the second to 80%, the third to 70%. This status effect can be removed through consuming a Blood ice or a Vial of Angel's Tears.

Defensive Power

Status Effect Tag: Defensive Power

Duration: 15 Status Ticks

Effect: The character gains +10% to defense.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of Prayer from a Shepherd.

Defensive Stance

Status Effect Tag: Defensive Stance

Duration: 15 Minutes

Stackable: Yes

Effect: While this Status Effect is active, any attack that hits the character has a 33% chance of instead being a miss. In addition, every attack action the character (the one with this status effect on them) makes will drain them of 1 MP. If the character attacks while having no MP remaining, the effect ends.

Notes: This Status Effect comes from activating the Paladin skill Defensive Stance.

Defiler Poison

Status Effect Tag: Defiler Poison

Duration: Until healed. It can persist after death - see below.

Stackable: No

Effect: The character suffers from a demonic poison and as a result takes damage every time they perform an AP-costing action. Tier 1 characters will take 1 point of damage per action, Tier 2 characters 3 points of damage per action, and Tier 3 characters 6 points of damage per action. This damage cannot be soaked by armor or other defensive measures.

Defiler Poison can be removed through the application of a First Aid Kit, a Healing Herb, a Stygian Bone Leech, through Surgery (with the Surgeon's Kit), by drinking a Potion of Healing, Meditation or Absolve Suffering. In all cases the treatment will have its normal effect (recovering Hit Points in the case of Meditation, etc) in addition to removing the poison.

Blood Ice will not cure this demonic affliction.

Death can be an effective, if somewhat harsh, cure. Upon respawn the character will be rid of the Poison. However, dying only cures the effects of poison for demons and for characters under level 10. Poison persists in other characters even after the character has died and respawned.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of being successfully attacked by a Defiler with the skill Poison using the charged attack Defiler Poison. It can also be the result of Alchemical Research, but in that case it will only last a finite number of ticks and will never persist after death.

Discerning Eyes

Status Effect Tag: Discerning Eyes

Duration: 20 Status Ticks

Stackable: Yes

Effect: Increases the odds of finding rare items on a successful search.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of Prayer from a Shepherd.

Divine Providence

Status Effect Tag: Divine Providence

Duration: 30 Status Ticks

Stackable: Yes

Effect: The character gains immunity to Defiler Poison, Dark Heart, Agony Curse and other demonic skills (note that this does not cure existing conditions).

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of Prayer from a Shepherd.

Divine Resolve

Duration: 15 Status Ticks

Effect:

Notes: This Status Effect comes from a Holy Champion with the skill Cloak of Divine Resolve activating their Divine Resolve.

Doomblight

Status Effect Tag: Doomblight

Effect: Each instance of this effect inflicts a -1 soak penalty

Notes: This Status Effect comes from a Doom Howler with the skill Doomblight successfully attacking a character with their Teeth of the Damned.

Drained

Status Effect Tag: Drained

Duration: 10 ticks

Stackable: Yes. So as to allow stacking multiples of this debuff.

Effect: Characters who are Drained suffer a -1 penalty to damage and -1 soak.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of losing a status effect via Hex of Sapping, and can sometimes be gained by striking a character who has a Draining Field. The Drained status itself cannot be removed by Hex of Nullity.

Drunk

Status Effect Tag: Drunk

Duration: 4 Status Ticks

Stackable: Yes

Effect: While drunk, you will receive a +1 damage bonus to Melee and Hand-To-Hand attacks, but a -5% penalty to hit on all attacks.

Notes: This Status Effect comes from drinking alcohol. This does not extend to real life.

Eldritch Bond

Status Effect Tag: Eldritch Bond

Duration: 25 Status Ticks

Effect: While this status effect is active, the character gains Immunity to both Holy and Unholy damage.

Notes: This Status Effect comes from a Conduit activating the skill Bond, Eldritch Bond.

Enervated

Status Effect Tag: Enervated

Effect:

  • Normal: Characters with the Enervated status effect suffer a penalty to their defense bonus as outlined in the Enervate skill's page.
  • Rend Flesh: Characters that attack a target suffering from the Enervated status effect gain a damage bonus as outlined in the Rend Flesh skill's page.

Notes: This status effect is the result of being successfully attacked by a Pariah with the skill Enervate using the charged attack Enervate.

Enhanced Senses

Status Effect Tag: Enhanced Senses

Effect: The character temporarily gains all the benefits of the Enhanced Senses skill.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of Prayer from a Shepherd.

Exposed

Status Effect Tag: Exposed

Effect: The character will suffer a -2 soak penalty

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of a Dark Oppressor with the skill Doomsights successfully attacking with the Crown of Pain.

Eye of Storms

Status Effect Tag: Eye of Storms

Effect: All Archery attacks will deal Electric damage and ignore any Immunities a target may possess.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of a Redeemed activating the skill Eye of Storms.

Fiendish Foresight

Status Effect Tag: Fiendish Foresight

Duration: 10 Status Ticks

Stackable: No

Effect: While under this effect, the character does not suffer extra damage when attacked by Hidden and Invisible characters. They also gain a 10% defense bonus.

Notes: This Status Effect can be the result of a Defiler using the skill Desecration on a corpse (or on a kill).

Fists of Holy Resolve

Status Effect Tag: Fists of Holy Resolve

Duration: 15 Status Ticks

Stackable: Yes

Effect: While under this effect, the character gains a +20% to hit bonus with Hand-to-Hand attacks. They also have the option to take 1 to 5 points of unsoakable damage per attack, dealing Holy damage those attacks. The character will deal double the amount of damage taken as extra damage.

Notes: This Status Effect comes from a Redeemed using the skill Fists of Holy Resolve.

Flaming Weapons

Status Effect Tag: Flaming Weapons

Duration: 20 Status Ticks

Stackable: Yes

Effect: All Hand-To-Hand and Melee weapon attacks made by the character deal Fire damage instead of their normal damage type and gain a +1 damage bonus.

Notes: This Status Effect comes from an Infernal Behemoth with the skill Burning Aura using Flaming Weapons.

Flying

Status Effect Tag: Flying

Duration: 30 minutes (potion) or infinite (skill)

Stackable: No

Effect: The character is flying. The character is able to fly over obstacles on the ground, move for half normal AP cost, and is immune to environmental damage such as from lava. The character cannot be targeted by hand-to-hand and melee attacks from non-flying characters as well as AoE damage.

The character cannot engage in close combat against non-flying characters, and must land to interact with objects on the ground, such as doors or portals.

At each AP Tick the character will lose this Status Effect and gain the Gliding Status Effect. Moving into a new tile will renew the Flying Status Effect.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of activating Wings, Leathern Wings or drinking a Potion of Flying.

Mountains tiles cost 1 AP to move to, because they normally cost 2, which is then halved. No, it's not a bug. Yes, I know you're now stuck outside, we've all had it happen once.

Frightened

Status Effect Tag: Frightened

Duration: 5 Status Ticks

Stackable: Yes

Effect: Character suffers a -5% penalty to attack and a -5% defense bonus

Notes: This Status Effect comes from a Doom Howler successfully using their Scream of the Banshee

Frostbite

Status Effect Tag: Frostbite

Duration: 10 Status Ticks

Stackable: Can have multiple instances of this status effect active

Effect: Character suffers a -1 penalty to soak, and all immunities are treated as 30% resistance.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of being struck by the Ice Elemental. This status effect can be removed by consuming a Blood Ice.

Gliding

Status Effect Tag: Gliding

Duration: No more than 15 minutes

Stackable: No

Effect: The character is gliding. The character gains this Status Effect after having the Flying Status Effect expire. At the next AP Tick, if the character has not renewed their Flying Status Effect by moving a tile, the character will land at their current location and suffer whatever effects of the terrain they encounter.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of not having moved whilst under the effects of Flying and having an AP Tick pass.

Golem Form

Status Effect Tag: Golem Form

Duration: ?? Status Ticks.

Stackable: Yes

Effect: The character gains a +4 soak bonus to all damage types, a +4 bonus to Hand-to-Hand damage, has doubled AP movement cost, a -10% to defense against all attacks, cannot fly nor walk through water and as long as the character is outside it will regenerate 3 Hit Points and 1 additional Magic Point per Game Tick.

Notes: This Status Effect can be the result of an Alchemical Experiment failing when doing so using the skill Alchemy. This used to be an Elementalist skill, Earth Mastery.

Guided Blade

Status Effect Tag: Guided Blade

Duration: 15 Status Ticks

Stackable: Yes

Effect: +20% to hit with Melee attack

Notes: This Status Effect is gained by casting the Spell Guided Blade.

Guardian

Status Effect Tag: Guardian

Duration: 20 or 30 Status Ticks

Effect:

  • Normal: This Status Effect grants the character a +2 bonus to soak
  • Defender of Justice: The status effect lasts for 30 ticks instead of 20
  • Defender of Truth: The status effect grants the character an additional +2 bonus to soak
  • Defender of the Innocent: Ending the status effect early can dispel other status effects, as described in the skill's page

Notes: This Status Effect comes from a Seraph activating the skill Stance of the Guardian.

Hands of the Crafter

Notes: This Status Effect comes from a Shepherd praying, or from a Redeemed with Radiant Storm.

Hidden

Duration: Until an Action Point is spent, the character is killed, or the character performs any action mentioned below.

  • Normal:The character cannot be seen unless they are found with a successful Search action. Characters with certain skills, such as Enhanced Senses, can see all Hidden characters in their location.

The hidden character is removed from the description of the location. A Hidden character gains a +5 damage bonus to their next (non-spell) attack if the target cannot see them (either by having found the character, Enhanced Senses, or Animus of the Bat), but that attack has a -20% chance to hit (regardless of whether the target can see them). This status effect is lost if the character performs an action that costs an Action Point, drops any item, speaks, performs an emote, or promotes a character. This removes the character from hiding, but does not announce their sudden presence to anyone in the room.

Minor Poison will last 150 Action Point ticks, or until the character receives healing. It can be removed through the application of a First Aid Kit, a Healing Herb, a Stygian Bone Leech, through Surgery (with the Surgeon's Kit), by drinking a Potion of Healing, Meditation or Absolve Suffering. In all cases the treatment will have its normal effect (recovering Hit Points in the case of Meditation, etc) in addition to removing the poison.

Death is also an effective, if somewhat harsh, cure. Upon respawn the character will be rid of the Minor Poison.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of being successfully attacked by either the Dark Oppressor's skill, Caustic Horns, being hit by a Ring of Poison, travelling through a Noxious Tunnel or hitting or being hit by poison enchanted weapons or armour..

Effect: While under this Status Effect, the character has a base 20% chance to damage a weapon in the inventory of a target upon a successful hit. This base chance can be increased to a maximum of 100% by spending 1 additional Magic Point per 10% increase.

A weapon that can be repaired (for example, a sword or gun) will suffer the loss of 1 step of quality if hit by this effect. A weapon that is at destroyed quality or that cannot be repaired (for example, improvised weapons such as sledgehammers or golf clubs) will be completely destroyed and immediately removed from the target's inventory.

The chance of any particular weapon being hit by this effect is proportional to its weight. A weapon with a weight of 6 will be twice as likely to be hit as a weapon with a weight of 3.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of a character activating the Weapon Breaker skill.

Weapon Turning

Effect: All weapons attacking the character have a +5% chance to decay.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of Prayer from a Shepherd.

Wing Wrap

Effect: While under this Status Effect the character gets +6 to all soaks but cannot move nor attack.

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of an Advocate using the skill Wing Wrap.

Wytchfire

Status Effect Tag: Wytchfire

Duration: 12 Status Ticks

Stackable: No

Effect: Every AP Tick, the status effect deals 4 Fire damage to the target. If a target suffering from Wytchfire is hit by any attack, the attack gains 4 Supplemental Death Damage.

Any actions taken by a target suffering from Wytchfire cause the target to take 4 points of Fire or Death damage (randomly determined).

Notes: This Status Effect is the result of being successfully attacked by the Doom Howler skill Wytchfire.

Zerg Flag

Status Effect Tag: Zerg Flag

Duration: 5 Minutes

Stackable: No, but each action that would invoke this effect will renew it. This will occurr until a significant amount of time has passed between conflicting character interaction.

Effect: Your character will be unable to hit, heal or otherwise meaningfully (i.e. not granting XP, mostly) interact with another character.

Notes: This is a Status Effect that is granted to help you. It is stated in the game rules that you should keep your characters apart. Not doing so invokes this status effect and the game wants to let you know you should go somewhere else. Standing on the same tile as another of your characters (referred to as an alt), even if that alt is in- or outside, will not allow you to successfully attack someone else on that tile. Hurting someone and then trying to heal that same character will also invoke this effect. Removing or Restoring Power that you originally interacted with (up to about 24 hours ago) will prevent yield a message concerning "whoever did this surely was an expert" and render your attampt at interacting with the Power of that tile useless.

This effect does not bar you from gaining XP outright, just not with characters that you've already had an alt interact with. This bears repeating: you can have this status effect and still gain XP from attacking (or doing whatever to) another character.
